Blankets at Bosco's Mercantile in Saugerties are sourced from fair trade manufacturers using organic materials. Current stock includes organic wool and cotton momo blankets from Guatemala, recycled wool throws designed in Scotland and woven in India, and German blankets made with organic Turkish cotton.

With decades of experience in corporate visual merchandising, Laura Huron has a honed aesthetic and instinct for quality in the home goods space, which is on display in her first upstate shop Bosco’s Mercantile.

Bosco’s Mercantile is a thriving bedding and home goods shop on Partition Street, stocking ethically and sustainably made products, from organic linens and throws to vintage indigo-dyed throw pillows and tabletop ceramics.

Laura Huron, owner of Bosco Mercantile, had never given upstate life a second thought—she was having too much fun as a bicoastal vagabond between New York and San Francisco and summering on Fire Island, but a stop in Saugerties changed all that. I had no idea a place like this existed.

“Textiles were always my true love,” says Laura Huron, owner of Bosco’s Mercantile and Bosco’s Little Shop in Saugerties. In 2016, she stepped away from a decades-long corporate career in visual merchandising to become a shopkeeper, bringing years of expertise and a finely honed aesthetic to the project.

“Textiles really are my jam,” says Huron, a San Francisco native who moved to Manhattan in her 20s to work in the fashion industry. She soon learned that making displays of products look visually appealing was her special talent. “Armani’s director of visual merchandising took me under her wing,” she relates.
